The Chamber Music Society

As Utah’s premier presenter of visiting chamber music ensembles, the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City brings eight to nine world-class groups to Libby Gardner Concert Hall each season, providing a platform for national and international artists to perform in Utah.

Founded in 1966, the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City has been a cornerstone of Utah’s classical music scene for nearly six decades. Established by a passionate group of musicians, university faculty, and community leaders, the Society launched its inaugural season with the support of the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation of the Library of Congress. The first concert, featuring the renowned Juilliard String Quartet, set a standard of excellence that continues to this day.

Each season, the Chamber Music Society presents eight to nine world-class ensembles at Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Committed to bringing the finest chamber musicians to Utah audiences, the Society has hosted many of the most celebrated ensembles, including GRAMMY-winning groups such as the Emerson String Quartet, as well as the esteemed Guarneri, Takács, and Pacifica Quartets. In addition to presenting established artists, the Society champions emerging young artists—introducing Salt Lake audiences to the next generation of chamber musicians, including numerous winners of the Banff International String Quartet Competition.

With a mission of enlightening, educating, and inspiring chamber music lovers, the Chamber Music Society proudly sponsors the University of Utah’s Summer Chamber Music Workshop, hosts public masterclasses with visiting artists for University of Utah students, and facilitates school outreach visits and clinics across the state.
